Bees put the stinger in Kick in the Ballz
In a nail-biter of a game the Kicker Bees came out on top of Kick in the Ballz with a 6-5 victory on Thursday. Of the game Muffin aka "Queen Bee" had this to say:"I'd rather play a whole season agains SUPERTOE than have to play that game again."The Kicker Bees look forward to week 9 and their last regular season game against that randy Unemployed team.
Bees Trip Runners
In a kickball showdown of Old West proportions the Kicker Bees dueled it out last Thursday against those Irish Green Midnight Runners. Down a Muffin but up in Old West spirit the Bees made a hell of a showing against the Runners. Kicker Bees short stop Steve Porter made an array of fantastic catches to demonstrate just how strong the Kicker Bee's defense has gotten. All of this was done in tandem with an outstanding display of kicking prowess. However, it was not an easy battle, as the Midnight Runnersforced the Bees to play the entire field. Their kicking was fantastic, especially a line drive kick to third base that whizzed so fast and hard, it stung a Bee square in the chest. The final out came from the Bee's short right field position, DC Chamberlain. This makes her first catch oft he season, and although it was a long time waiting, she delivered whenit was needed. When the sun had set the Bees had defeated the Runners 5 to 1. The Kicker Bees look forward to this week's matchup against SuperRef and his band of merry ballers. Things are sure to get interesting....

And the Board Says....
In a message from El Presidente L. Skywalker Crofoot the WAKA Gaithersburg Board has ruled that the matchup between the Kicker Bees and Balls to the Wall will be a tie!!!Ruling was based on the following according to the WAKA Gaithersburg Commander-in-Chief:While we agree that the Bees are a veteran team and should know the rules, we believe that the ref should have made the call at the point he noticed the players were not wearing their WAKA shirts, rather than waiting until the end of the game to announce the forfeit. Overall, this rule has not been strictly enforced over the years and although teams are asked to live with the decisions of the head ref during a game, we feel that in this case because no warning was issued ( i.e. the team had no opportunity to either remove the players from the game or have them change shirts), a forfeit would be unfair.
I do want to say that I'm glad the ref in question pays close attention to official WAKA emails, has read the rulebook and knows the rules, and can't fault him in that regard for trying to do the right thing. Our league, however, has thrived for 3+ seasons on a loose interpretation of this and one or two other rules in the WAKA rulebook. I think the ultimate, big-picture goal for us as a league is to make sure that players have a fun, fair, and safe playing environment, and I think we do a pretty good job at that. If this incident had endangered the safety of the players on the field, our decision would definitely have been different.
Kicker Bees put some Balls to the Wall
What a mighty battle took place on Field C last Thursday. The Kicker Bees faced off agains Less Filling Division leaders Balls to the Wall. An intense game insued and things were starting to look a little grim towards the middle of the game as the Bees had yet to score. But fear not Kicker Bees Ravi "Superstar" Patankar soon changed that! Once again our little Superstar charged to home plate. Next run was followed up by a Bee that I have yet to name as I don't have my scorebook in front of me. And as always Steve "Fettucini" Porter continues his audition for Circe du Soleil with his impressive acrobatics. Not only was a battle fought on offense but the KBs put up an impressive stance on defense. Shout outs to Encylopedia Brittanic for sucking up the pain and remaining on the mound despite intense shoulder pain, and to our very own MVPlaya Ken Sandler who was left battered and bruised after a run in at first base. At the end the of the 5th inning the score was 2-2. The Bees called it a draw but the head ref, aka "the Kicker Bees FAVORITE ref" (sarcasm), decided he would give the win to the Balls to the Wall team since not all Bees were in uniform. WAKA rule books states that all players should be in uniform. Mind you this rule has never been enforced in the life of the Gaithersburg Division (Just like the *cough cough* drinking on the field rule Mr. Head Ref, oh and the equipment being setup by 6:30 Mr. Head Ref). Alas, after some words were exchanged, the fate of the game is left up to the WAKA Gaithersburg Board...
Bees smooshed by the Toe.
On May 24th the Kicker Bees geared up to face the great Toe. But alas the bees were unable to rekindle that fire that sparked the 8-inning battle last season. While the KBs tried with all their Bee might they were unable to get a single run against SUPERTOE. With droopy wings the Bees left the field in a 5-0 Loss to the Old Toe.
